The Connecticut Agricultural Education Foundation will be awarding up to $2000 in scholarships to Connecticut student(s) in 2010. Award decision will be based on essay content, extracurricular activities, interest in agriculture, grades, and support of promoting agricultural literacy. The application period has ended. We will be announcing our winner(s) at our annual golf tournament in June.
The Connecticut Agricultural Education Foundation awarded two $1,000 scholarships in 2009 to students in college or are college-bound and are pursuing a career in agricultural education or an agricultural related field. The recipients of the 2009 scholarships are Sarah Jean Griffin and Amy Pantaleo.
Amy Pantaleo of Oxford is a member of the Woodbury FFA Chapter, class of 2009. She has been encouraged by her Ag Ed teachers to "achieve her dreams and pursue every goal that she had." She will attend the University of Connecticut in the fall, pursuing a degree in Food Science in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Sarah Jean Griffin of West Suffield was also awarded a scholarship. She is a recent graduate of Cornell University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Animal Science and a minor in Agircultural Business. She grew up on a small family farm milking cows, shearing sheep and has experienced first had where her food has come from. She will attend the University of Connecticut as part of the TCPCG program to pursue a master's degree in Agricultural Education.
These two studens believe in the future of agriculture and each is working toward high goals. They are well deserving recipients of the 2009 Connecticut Agricultural Education Foundation Scholarships and we wish them good luck in the future.
