This book about farming intends to portray not just one particular farm but a universal one. This book shows how real-life activities and chores on a farm can produce crops and food, indoors or outdoors despite the forces of nature that may impact the farm. This book is traditional in concept but excellent in some depictions!

Haugen, Brenda. Unusual Farms, ISBN: 0-7565-0668-9. This delightful book examines farm production that many do not connect as a type of farming. It provides high quality photos and brief explanations for ostrich, bison, llama, fish, silk, trees, and bamboo farms. Unfortunately, it takes one step too far and includes wind farms. While wind turbines may be an increasingly visible component in the rural landscape they really are not "farmed". The book closes with trivia and a short glossary.

The book's main focus is on rangeland grazing but the book does have information of value to readers anywhere in the country. Using the stories of three Montana ranchers, Cris describes the love ranchers have for their land, efforts to preserve and enhance the environment and raise a healthy food source for America's consumers. She depicts that their efforts care for their cattle and enhance the wildlife habitat on their ranches.
